Out of retirement

Working has been a new adventure. I want to do a good job. There is definitely a learning curve. There are a lot of things I have done, but it has been a while, so I am rusty but hoping to get up to speed quickly. Thankfully, I have the last person from this position showing me the ropes. Then, I get to practice during the day before she comes in in the afternoon. She is a very organized person, and I appreciate it a great deal.

I enjoy the owner and the rest of the staff. They are all very accommodating and nice to be around. Most have been there a long time with me and another being new. They seem to like me as well. I have a different schedule this week with training. I have been working 10 am to 6 or 7 pm, but I have two have the weekend free to recover. This past week, I got my own email address, and the IT guy switched everything around, so that has been interesting. It was tough at first because how I trained changed, but we got it back, mostly to how it was.

The company I work for is a flooring company. They do mostly commercial jobs with installers being sub-contracted. They are a successful company and have money for their bills, which is a breath of fresh air. It reminds me a lot of the other construction companies I worked for. I like the varied duties, rather than just one thing, but it also will take time to get used to their way of doing things.

I also have officially changed my last name with the social security office and have also gotten my driver’s license changed. Now starts the real fun with all the bank accounts to be changed, credit cards, etc. It may take me a while. I need a new passport too but it will be nice to have one name.

I did try to open an account, but I couldn’t because they had no time available at the one I chose over the weekend, so I guess I will be saving my paper checks for now. Haven’t had an actual paycheck in probably 20 years. My other small jobs were all paid electronically. It will be rewarding.

I also have a roommate. His name is George. Yes, a male, because he is more agreeable than females. He takes out the trash and helps with yard work. He will run to the store, when needed and takes care of the dishes. All very helpful. So far, it has been great, and he has been here almost a month. Nala likes him too. He does concrete work and is a framer of all the forms and drives in evenings. He is a hard worker.

Soon, it will be time to take the cover off the pool so I can use it again. There is a lot of debris on the cover and in the pool. The purpose of the pool cover is to help insulate it so it is warmer with the cooler overnight temperatures.  It is about 75 degrees right now. We have had weather in the 80s and low 90s this week. It’s still a bit cool to swim, in my opinion.

I think that is all the news for now. It seems like a long couple of weeks. I have today left to get ready for the week. I plan to decorate my office this week. Yes, I even have my own office. I joke at work that I am going to institute a nap program. I sure do miss those. I am sure I will get used to the new routine after a while.  I wanted to try out working from 7 to 3 this week, but we have more training this Saturday, so since I have a bit of a flexible schedule. Wish me luck. It feels good to be out of the house and being with people again. The paycheck will be nice as well.

  3. Everything seems to be working out well for you. As far as a male room mate, I also had one for 4 years. He moved in before I moved in. This was a little house I bought at age 28, just down the street from the Swedish Club.
