Special visitor

Mario and me

So excited to have a visitor from the US. Mario currently lives in New Hampshire but we met in Gig Harbor, Washington 15 years ago when I had my scandinavian shop. We hit it off and have been friends ever since. He and his husband Mark came to see me just before I found out I was getting divorced.

Beer festival

We have been shopping around Malmö, riding the public transportation and getting him acclimated. We have a busy time ahead as he only has 6 1/2 days here. We discovered there was a Bavarian Beer and Brat festival so we meet another friend and had a good time, despite being tired.

Brat and fries

Saturday we went into Copenhagen. We tried to find the ferry to go because online it said it was still available and a 40 minute ride over. We went to a ferry terminal but that one went to Germany amd they said the other route did not exist anymore when we were on the boat tour. So we ended up taking the train which was rather crowded but a friend, Jenny from LaSoup, was there as I got on. We found a seat and she came to talk to us and she ended knowing her as well. Small town apparently.

Copenhagen boat tour

I picked up my car and was so pleased the $500 made the problem disappear I was having. So relieved and the car is driving like a dream. In Copenhagen we shopped and took the cruise on the water. Our guide was great. We learned the little mermaid statue was the 3rd biggest disappointing tourist attraction. 17 low bridges to go under and ate smørbrød sandwiches (danish) dinner in Nyhavn harbor.

We did make a stop to see my family in Höör. We took a walk around the graveyard which was a bit eerie because of the low clouds and early morning. We were on the way to Småland. Stopped by the IKEA museum store and went to the town square and took a photo like the tray I bought. Since it was Sunday everything there was closed.

Kosta Boda glassbar (photo by Mario)

The afternoon was spent shopping at Kosta and we are staying overnight at the hotel. The hotel is full of glass pieces everywhere. Beautiful glass sinks and the bar area is amazimg. We treated ourselves to a spa treatment today and enjoyed the luxurious pool and can enjoy it until 3 tomorrow afternoon. Time to sleep so I can have energy for tomorrow.

  1. You sure get around. So much fun to hear about your travels. I knew Mario was American, because he talked in one of the videos and I did not hear an accent. What an opportunity for him to have you as a travel companion and guide.
I agree that the mermaid can be a disappointment. She is so little. I expected her to be much larger. The time I went to see her someone had decided to cut off the head, crazy, but I understand it got fixed very quickly.
I just came back from Alaska. Went there with Kerstin Liland. Perhaps you know her from bazaars. It was a lot of fun and we also picked lingonberries. I was not sure if I wanted to pick, because bears are all around, but we did not encounter any. Enjoy each day!
