Hometown

Thursday this week there was supposed to be a showing of my apartment but no one booked so it got canceled shortly before. However, there was a private showing Wednesday. I have stopped putting everything away until I find out if it is going to happen because it irritates me and often gets canceled. The up side is I get to stay longer in this apartment, which works for me right now. So currently I get to stay until October. The market has definitely changed here recently. Not nearly the activity and quick sale they expected.

Nathalie, Lola and me

I spent the weekend with my good friends Nathalie and Magnus in Växjö. This is the town I was born in. It was a last minute decision and so glad it worked out. The bed is comfortable, Lola (the dog) is always excited to see me and Nathalie and Magnus always treat me well. Nathalie and I have known each other since we were around 4 or 5 years old. Recently, you may remember I met someone in my BodyPump class who knew Magnus, her husband.

Växjö is in the province of Småland. The area is known for its glass and had lots of small little glass factories once upon a time, the largest being Kosta. Many have closed and some went in together with Kosta. In the town of Kosta there is a Glass Hotel with a glass bar and custom glass pieces in the rooms. Someday I would like to stay here. Maybe my friend Mario will be up for it when he comes in September?!?

We had tacos friday night. That is a thing here in Sweden. Tacos on friday?!?! Yes!! I know it doesn’t sound as good as Taco Tuesday or even Taco Thursday but Taco Friday it is. I am making it my mission to change all of sweden to Taco Tuesday. Just kidding but seriously who thought up Taco friday? It should be pizza right?!?! Lots of places also have pea soup and pancakes on Thursdays also, an interesting combination.

Magnus, Nathalie, Lola and I went to a couple antique stores. Really nice stuff there. I did buy a handmade basket I couldn’t live without for 90 swedish kronor or about $9. Then we went to Boda and later Kosta and there I got a couple of things. Always fun to look but until I decide if I am staying or going not buying much. I do love beautiful glass.

After we just hung out watching tv and relaxing. Lola was with me for a bit. She is so cute and friendly. Definitely makes me miss having a pet but also thankful to not have a pet to prevent me from going places. Pros and cons to everything.

I feel I could stay in Sweden right now and be quite happy. It takes time to transition to a new place and I feel I am getting more and more comfortable but there are plenty of things I don’t understand and luckily I have great friends willing to help. I feel very fortunate. I am not making any decisions yet. Taking my time and seeing how things fall into place. I still have plenty to explore.

Tuesday I had a telephone call about a freelance journalist course. I thought it could be interesting to try but after some thought I have decided it would be better if it was in english. I read some articles and realize I don’t understand the culture or language well enough just yet. My grammar and spelling are not there yet. Perhaps a language class first. Nice to get away but always nice to be home.
