Yesterday my friend’s nephew tried to teach me a bunch of Romanian words. He is 12 years old and absolutely adorable. I was having a hard time remembering so he suggested I write in my telephone. He kept looking at what I wrote to see how I spelled the words but I had to write them phonetically so I could pronounce them. He pointed and said the name, I repeated and added them to my phone and then he tested me. It was a fun time. I learned a lot and we will see what I remember. Another family member suggested Duolingo as a way to learn. I will give it a try.

We did do some sight seeing. Lots of churches which were all beautiful. Very elaborate as most have stained glass, paintings, silver and gold. Unusual style. Bacau was a nice place to visit. Stayed the night in a hotel there and looked around and shopped the local market.

We also went with another nephew and his wife to the salt mines but never found them. Instead we found a place of healing therapeutic waters. There you could find fountains that would heal different areas like stomach, eyes and other ailments. They tasted really funky but one you could set fire too. Smelled a lot like sulfur. Did not realize it would burn, so interesting.

My friend has been very good to me showing me all around and his mom has been trying to figure out what I want to eat. She always wants me to eat so needless to say my pants are not fitting as I want. She says I never eat her food, but I do. I try everything. Some things I like, some things not so much but I know she tries very hard to please me.

Having indoor plumbing is definitely something I miss but seeing how they make do is incredible. There are some people still using horses for deliveries. People are very curious about who I am since they all know each other in town. I can only imagine what people think about the Swedish American who can’t speak or understand anything.

Today I went for a walk and saw my friend’s mom working out in the field with 2 other older ladies turning the ground and getting it ready for planting. So after my walk I went to help out. It brought me back to the days when mom and dad had us help in the yard. I was glad I knew what to do and could help out. She worked most of the day but insisted I stay home after just a short time to eat. Not sure why, I was happy to help.

I found out my Body Pump instruction certification is still good so now to train back up and get a job at the local gym. Lots of options for classes. Excited about it since I thought I would have to start over completely. Win!

I will be heading home Thursday. I have learned a lot but ready for familiar things and a language I can understand. Turns out my sister Jennifer will be visiting Romania in a couple of weeks for business. She is in the Air Force. Too bad she can’t visit me or my brother. I was even willing to fly down but she won’t have any time.
