City is glowing

Lilla torg

It is so beautiful on the streets of downtown Malmö. It is fun to come downstairs and out into the Streets with people, restaurants of all kinds to choose from, bicycles, walkers, runners, busses and cars. The store windows are lit up with paper stars and lights. It is magical.

We had a bit of snow but it has turned to rain where I am now. I don’t mind walking in the rain, an umbrella usually doesn’t work because of the wind. Doing my hair is pointless. Hats, scarves and gloves are definitely assets when walking but when you go inside or ride the bus you are suddenly too warm. I feel I am constantly undressing and redressing. It is a process! 😀

I am all settled in. This apartment is not like the photos from the last blog it’s better in many ways. I am so pleased with the sofa!! It makes me so very happy to have a place to sit!! Who knew that would be the highlight but it is. I have purchased a few things second hand to decorate for Christmas. Not sure how much more I will do but I do enjoy seeing all the lights and decorations all around.

A walk way from Stortorget to
my street Kalendegatan

I have had some tough moments but I know it is going to happen. I appreciate the kind comments and helpful advice. I called the bank to check progress and it appears it will take some time still, maybe even a couple more weeks to get an appointment. After that I don’t know but I have signed the lease on an apartment for next year. A little less money and in a good location (not downtown but close enough). Excited about having a place to live where I can be for a while and hopefully make some friends.

Maddie, my first guest on the sofa!!!!

In the meantime Maddie came by and went shopping at the Loppis (flea market). It was fun hanging out. I spent the afternoon friday with Eivor who made dinner and we got a chance to talk. Today I will see my friend Maria who used to live in Gig Harbor but is from Landskrona on the West Coast and up about 40 min. We are going bowling! Also going to Helsingborg (a little further up the coast) for church and a Thanksgiving dinner.

Something new I did today was schedule time to wash my clothes. Here we have a wash room (tvättstuga) which is fairly common in older apartment buildings. You get the machines up to 4 hours from one of the two wash rooms. We will see how it goes. Busy week overall which helps keep my mind occupied. That is the report for now. God Jul!

  1. The Christmas season is so fraught, and there you are in Sweden, spending time with people, seeing new and old sights, and having an adventure most people would not even consider. Good for you for letting both the joys and the sorrows in, accepting the way they carom around inside you. That bright orange sofa will make you smile every time you walk into your apartment.
