Small adventures

Over the weekend I went to visit a friend who lives in a coastal town called Simrishamn. I went by train, it took 1 hour 23 minutes and it was completely different scenery than I had seen before. The rolling hills and picturesque landscape were delightful, although not easily captured while traveling on the train at high speed.

In Simrishamn, my friend met me and took me on a tour of the small town which hosts 19,356 residents. It is on the Eastern side of Southern Sweden near a larger town of Ystad which is also very quaint and I plan to revisit. It has been many years since I was there last.

The houses were very quaint and colorful. I enjoyed seeing them side by side with flowers in pots and window boxes. I imagined they had beautiful little gardens in the back but I don’t know for sure since I did not get to see any.

It was a pretty warm day so we had a late lunch of äggakaka which is a thick pancake like texture made of egg, served with nice thick slices of bacon and lingongberries. Very good and filling. I will have to try making one of my own sometime.

The next day was pouring rain. So my plans to go to a grillfest were canceled but another event planned for the same day moved indoors and I was able to attend that instead. It was very fun to meet some new people and see some familiar faces as well. Turned out to be the perfect event to pass the time while my apartment had a showing.

The rest of the days this week I was lethargic and tired and not able to accomplish much at all. I slept a lot more than usual. I think the medication is having this effect on me. Not sure I will continue if it doesn’t get better. It could be boredom as well but I feel so tired all the time. I did go out for a walk and see summer flowers.

Yesterday I managed to teach my BodyPump class and went all out but I was absolutely exhausted when I finished. Getting some regulars is so much fun. Even met a man who knew a friend of mine from Växjö.

This morning I woke up with a massive headache but thankfully caffeine cured it. Today I am heading north by train to meet some new relatives and celebrate midsummer with friends. Very excited. More to come soon! Also divorce is finally finished. Feels sad and good at the same time.

  2. Having the divorce final is a big step toward moving into the new life you are creating. And you are certainly taking advantage of your chance to get to know the region where you live – and beyond.
